Language

The Bara Tribe had two main kingdoms that spoke different languages, one of the  kingdoms was split up by the French causing it to loose part of it's language and culture. The current day Bara people speak Malagasy, Malagasy is a language mostly spoken in Madagascar by over 18 million people. Malagasy is a African Born language but has migrated and is now nearly only spoken in Madagascar with some small tribes speaking it. Malagasy is a very basic language with a large majority of the words spoken dealing with animal husbandry and hunting/gathering.

  1. I think the language aspect of the Bara tribe is very interesting. For a tribe to be so far and separated from the rest of the country but to still speak the same language is very unique. Also, it is very interesting that the language is very basic and a large majority of the words used are about hunger/ gathering. The language they speak does not have much in common with ours in the United States but has one similarity with English. Both languages are spoken by a large majority of people in their perspective countries and have a big impact on the area in which they are given.

  3. Dear Eric,
Your ethnographic post is so brief, and this reflexive comment is the same twice. I think you should add more, at least 3-4 paragraphs as indicated in the guidelines, and please look at Alicia's post and reflexive comment. You do talk about English and the United States for your reflexive comment. I give you that but how about yourself, as a male, American student, and your ethical behavior while doing this about the Bara. Who are you? How would you affect folks who read this. Is a simple brief general paragraph enough to talk about the existence of a human group? Please, address this, and once you do, email me to read your comment. Do delete this comment after you address these issues.
    Also, your reference...where is it?
    Thanks
